Hi guys, One of the most interesting things I learned at the conference was the new technique being used by BSs to prevent LE when they have to perform an axillary dissection. They are also using it to CORRECT existing LE. It is called Peripheral Lymphatic-Venous Anastamosis. There are two types of lymphatic vessels, superficial and deep. They take the deep one and connect it, microsurgically, to a small, nearby vein. This keeps the lymphatic fluid flowing and it can correct existing LE. It is STILL NEW... but it can't hurt to ask your surgeon about it! Here is an attached slide from the conference.
